Common Configurations and Equipment | Courtesy Wi-Fi Access

Three example installation configurations that enable enterprises to provide secure Wi-Fi Internet access for mobile users from both outside or behind the corporate firewall are the Branch Office , Enterprise, and Campus configurations. Many additional configurations are possible depending on network design.

Branch Office Configuration
The branch office configuration is the simplest, with just one AP connected to a SAM UltraLite and a DSL Internet connection. This is appropriate for locations that have Internet connectivity with no LAN or locations with a small provate corporate network.

In a configuration without a corporate LAN, the SAM will not only provide access control, but will be the main gateway router and firewall. The SAM supports PPPoE, DCHP, and Static IP based ISP connections. In the configuration below, the SAM provides access control to the courtesy WI-FI network.

The enterprise configuration is appropriate for installation at a site with an existing private LAN and an Internet connection. The Courtesy Wi-Fi Internet Access solution adds the WLAN components for providing Wi-Fi Internet to mobile users.

In this configuration, the SAM is typically deployed with a publicly routable IP address behind the existing gateway router. Many companies place the Enterprise Sesame Access Manager in their DMZ for added security. By using VLANs, the security of the existing private corporate network is not compromised while the SAM and corporate firewall block unauthorized access.

Campus Configuration
The campus configuration is most appropriate for large enterprise or campus environments. The Courtesy Wi-Fi Internet Access solution adds the WLAN components for mobile business users while protecting the existing private corporate network. It allows for multiple APs to be deployed throughout the existing network with the network traffic from mobile broadband users isolated and routed back to the SAM using VLANs.

In this configuration, the SAM can be deployed as a parallel gateway router with separate ISP connection for mobile user Courtesy Internet access. In this case the SAM will directly manage the new ISP connection.
